Register as a Guest Researcher
Guest Researchers are able to access the Female Convicts in Van Diemen's Land Database and restricted areas of the website for 12 months, renewable each year. You will receive an email when renewal is due. You are also able to subscribe to our email newsletters during this time.
Please consider registering as a Guest Researcher by completing the Guest Researcher Registration Form. We welcome guest researchers from Tasmania, interstate and overseas. For more information please read our FAQ page.
Become a registered FCRC Member
Membership is open to anyone interested in being more actively involved with the FCRC as a supporter or volunteer, for example (but not limited to) committee members, transcribers, researchers, seminar speakers and volunteers in any capacity.
To apply to become a member of the FCRC you are required to apply online by upgrading your Guest Researcher subscription or in writing, and agree to the FCRC Membership Terms and Conditions. This is a free, lifetime membership, and replaces your 12 month Guest Researcher registration.
Before applying for membership, please read the FCRC Rules of Incorporation (adopted 2018 and as amended 2021) in particular we draw your attention to clause 5 Membership of Association.
Meetings and Committee Members Responsibilities
Any member of the Association may be nominated for election as an officer of the Association, or as an ordinary committee member.
The Committee meets monthly, (except January) 4.30 to 5.30 at the Cascades Female Factory, 16 Degraves Street, South Hobart. Committee members are expected to be active in the association and to take on a responsibility or role. They should reasonably expect to be able to attend all meetings. Register as a Family Researcher
You can have your details recorded in the database as a family researcher. We can then put you in touch with other family researchers of the convict you are researching, or contact you if new information is found. Please complete the Share your convict story form.

You are able to share their convict stories, images or documents. We can add your stories to the website or the database.

There are answers to many of your questions on the FAQ page. Any other questions can be answered by one of our volunteers by contacting us. Please remember that the FCRC is run by volunteers. Please be patient and we will attend to your enquiry as quickly as possible.
